A Dinner

We had dinner with some friends last night D & C. They gave us a tremendous gift. No sooner had we all sat down to eat then they asked us about our marriage, and how we are doing. How we are really doing. They asked straight to the core issues, including the struggles, and when we answered openly and honestly, they responded with curiosity, appreciation, welcome, respect. Safety. Reciprocal vulnerability.

Nothing was idle. There was none of the superficial nonsense. No pretense, no hiding. No pretending to be more put together than we were. And in our openness, we were able to learn from each other.
Together we created intimacy. I wish more conversations were like this.
